Job Summary

The Reliability Engineer is a member of a team responsible for the rotating equipment and condition monitoring program. The Reliability Engineer serves as a subject matter expert on reliability and predictive maintenance activities, including overseeing field data gathering, basic, intermediate and advanced analysis across multiple disciplines, and comprehensive maintenance management system (CMMS) integration. Collaborates in the development of CMMS utilizing reliability centered maintenance principles. Provides support and training services to reliability team members, maintenance and operations personnel.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide essential management functions forroute-based condition monitoring programs, including scheduling of associated activities

  • Assist in development and successfulimplementation and maintenance of a successful reliability program at the site,business unit and corporate levels

  • Support evaluation and mitigation of complexpiping vibration challenges.

  • Gather data on operating machinery using avariety of instrumentation and analyzers to permit complex or advanced analysisof machinery condition.

  • Perform advanced diagnostics on rotating and/orreciprocating equipment to identify underperforming equipment and incipientmechanical failures.

  • Maintain, prepare, and/or interpret reportsincluding but not limited to vibration, motion amplified video, ultrasonic, oil analysis, infrared,inspection, equipment performance and work orders.

  • Attain and maintain proficiency in utilizing thecorporate asset management tool, Maximo, for work order completion, job planand task development, and other functions to improve efficiency and value ofpredictive maintenance activities.

  • Assist preventative maintenance personnel inmaintaining proper equipment performance. Assist with alignments,troubleshooting, service and repair as required.

  • Provide advanced technical support to areamechanics, Operations and Engineering relative to gas processing equipment andrelated components including engines, compressors, pumps, motors, gearboxes,etc.

  • Provide advanced technical support for incidentinvestigations and failure analysis reports, including leading or participatingin teardown activities, Root Cause Analysis, Cause Mapping and formal reportingof those activities.

  • Provide detailed data pertaining to equipmentperformance, health, and diagnostics to operations management

  • Provide instruction, coaching and review ofprecision alignment activities for rotatingequipment.

  • Trend data to help predict when equipmentmaintenance is required to maximize the economic run time and operational availability.

  • Provide project and operational supportduring key designand start up phases to ensure reliability expectations are met.

  • Conduct training sessions with reliability teammembers, mechanics and operations personnel.

  • Attend on and off-site training courses and passall qualifying tests.

  • May work overtime and must maintain availabilityfor call outs and extended travel when necessary.

  • Regular and reliable attendance is required inperformance of job.

  • Employee may be required to perform additionalduties as assigned.

  • Support failure analysis process (cause map andincident investigations).

  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) process.

  • Lead effort to ensure equipment documentation isup to date.

  • Provide engineering support to maintenance andequipment analyst teams.

  • Provide start up support including, but notlimited to:

  • Document verifications

  • Verify that procedures and guidelines are followed

  • Lead failure analysis investigation

  • Report findings

  • Research and stay current in the development ofnew technologies.

  • Promote and expand the use of the corporateasset management system, Maximo.

  • Identify and solve repeat/ongoing equipment problems.

  • Lead and implement predictive and preventivemaintenance analysis and optimization strategies.

  • Provide a high level of technical support tooperations, maintenance and project engineering.

  • Benchmark, track, and improve process reliability.

  • Provide technical and/orengineering assistance to management, employees, governmental/regulatory personnel, contractors, customers, andothers on matters including, but not limitedto:

  • Equipment/system design

  • Pipeline facility design, construction,operation, and maintenance

  • Policies andprocedures

  • Regular and reliable attendance is required inperformance of job.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or reliability engineering and/or an equivalent combination of formal education and the following job-related experience:

  • Experience and training related to:

  • Comprehensive reliability program development

  • Rotating equipment installation and precision alignment

  • Instructionalexperience

  • Experience with CSI 2140 vibration analyzer andAMS MHM software

  • Leading and monitoring rotating, reciprocating,instrument and electrical system preventive/predictive maintenance programs

  • Computerized Maintenance Management Systems(CMMS) experience (i.e. Maximo, SAP, etc.)

  • Operational Deflection Shape (ODS studies)

  • Improving asset availability through effectivepreventive and predictive activities

  • Leading Failure and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) initiatives

  • Company/governmental operating and safety procedures

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Mechanical and electrical experience

  • Three or more years’ experience working withinthe oil and gas, refining or petrochemicalindustry.

  • Identify and facilitate the implementation ofbest practices (internal and external), equipment specifications, standards andmaintenance activities including Recognized and General Accepted GoodEngineering Practices (RAGAGEP).

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively develop andpresent information and training to various levels of the organizationincluding upper management and field teams.

  • Application of math, algebraic formulas,calculus, and statistics.

  • Communicate and exchange verbal information andinstructions; conduct oral presentations.

  • Experience in use and function of officeequipment including computers and applicablesoftware.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and write fluentlyin English.

  • Strong mechanical trouble shooting skills anddemonstrated strength in their utilization.

  • Working knowledge of the safe and compliantoperation of internalcombustion engines, reciprocating/screw compressors, gasturbines, pumps, motors, gearboxes, etc.

  • Strong computer skills/software & hardwareapplications (not limited to Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook).

  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility, perform duties and handle multipletasks under potentially stressful conditions.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently andas part of a team, with a strong sense of urgency.

Certification and Licensing

  • Applicable driver’s license. Requires travel toother company offices and facilities and to job sites.

  • ISO Category III or IV Vibration Analyst Certification

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use office tools and equipment required.

  • Ability to safely climb and/or maneuver over,under and around engines and all types of rotatingequipment.

  • Mobility to travel in and around plant andoffice facilities and around job sites out-of-doors.

  • Ability to operate tools and equipment as required.

  • Ability to lift 15 pounds frequently and 50pounds occasionally.

  • Sufficient to perform job duties.
